Housing Affordability in Australia

This bar chart illustrates the average house prices in capital cities in March 1980 and March 2016 in Australia. In general, the house prices have increased enormously since 1980. In 1980, the house prices were low and stable, so they were affordable. However, in 2016, the house prices rocketed so people's housing affordability decreased significantly. The prices of houses in Sydney were the highest ones in both 1980 and 2016 with Melbourne becoming the second higher. Nowadays, many people who live in Australia are struggling to buy their own houses, especially in Sydney.
